Editorial and corrections policy

Maritime theory affects real decisions. SkipperPrep therefore treats source quality, uncertainty and correction history as part of the product—not decoration added after a lesson is written.

Primary sources first

Rules, official guidance, chart conventions and forecasts are checked against the responsible authority before secondary teaching material is used.

Teach the decision, not just the answer

Questions explain why the correct option works and why plausible alternatives fail. Safety-critical shortcuts are not simplified past the point of accuracy.

Review claims must be attributable

Named expert-review credit appears only after a suitably qualified person has reviewed the stated material. Internal editing is never relabelled as independent review.

Corrections outrank pride

Confirmed safety or factual errors are corrected promptly. Related questions, explanations and diagrams are checked for the same defect, not patched one at a time.

Maintenance process

  1. Identify the governing rule or authoritative source.
  2. Write in plain English without changing the operational meaning.
  3. Check linked questions, distractors, diagrams and calculations together.
  4. Run automated content checks for broken references and inconsistent data.
  5. Record substantive changes in the project history and update review dates where shown.

AI use

The AI Tutor is a study aid, not an authority or a substitute for an instructor. It receives relevant course context, but learners should use the authored lesson and linked official material for safety-critical conclusions. Generated answers do not silently become course content.
