Cormorant is on a beam reach in a Force 4, full main and genoa, making 6 knots in a moderate sea. Sam has gone forward to sort a flogging sheet when a wave lurches the boat and, in one sickening second, he is over the guardrail and in the water astern. You are on the helm, with two other crew in the cockpit.
